Day 1

The class began with a simple question — “ How many mediums exist?”.

So, basically we are surrounded with 4 mediums, namely:
1. Text (It’s visual, but it has it’s own space)
2. Visual
3. Sound ( that never ceases to exist)
4. Sensory (i.e., touch, smell and taste)

The Professor then named a few things to make the differentiation between the 4 mediums clearer.

Then, he showed us a episode of a Netflix show called Chef’s Table to tell us how people are using different mediums to express themselves and if we are not able to use one medium, how do v use another.

So, the episode was based on an American chef- Grant Achatz who wants to wow diners with mystery, emotion and magic just as much as he does with flavor and beauty. He never stopped exploring and pushing himself. Even when he opened up his own restaurant and became successful, he broke the whole thing apart to start something new and not limit himself to just one concept. When he got cancer, it became tough for him as a chef because he lost his sense of taste. Even then he never stopped chasing his dreams and continued his passion by expressing and conveying his ideas through the medium of drawing. Eventually, he got back his sense of taste and began to be known as the chef who couldn’t taste.

After this ended, each one of us discussed the part where it became interesting for us. For me! It became interesting when he started expressing and conveying his dishes through the medium of drawing because even after he had cancer he never stopped and continued to push his limits.

This, is where the class came to an end……
